We, AnimalAtlas, are a passionate team based in Utrecht, The Netherlands, founded in 2025. Our journey started when we (at that time 1 person), Dutch students wanted to know more about wildlife and decided to gather information about animals. However, we found out there was no detailed, reliable and clear place for animal lovers to learn more about their favorite animals. So we decided to make one ourselves!

One of the biggest struggles of building a website like this, is finding the right information for the animals. We started sending e-mails to nature reservates, national parks, zoos and even nature conservation organisations in not just the Netherlands but also in Germany, the United States, China and more. We also contacted biologists to make sure our information is correct and give nature lovers the best experience possible. 

This way of confirming the right information is what we still do and what we will always be doing, with even more animals coming to our animal compendium in the near future. We do have other exciting plans, like a place to discover the biomes of the world, it’s ecology, plants and wildlife, so stay tuned and keep an eye out for news on our social media.
